Garden Oaks Veterinary Center Surgery Policies

A $50 Deposit is required to schedule any procedure.

This deposit is collected at the time surgery is scheduled and will stay on your account as a credit to be used toward your pet’s procedure. If you need to reschedule or cancel your pet’s procedure, please let us know more than 24 hours in advance or the deposit will be forfeited.

No food or water after 10pm the night before.

Please do not give your pet any food or water after 10pm the night before the procedure OR the morning of the procedure. If there are any shared food or water bowls, please make sure to isolate your pet from them.

Drop off time the day of the procedure will be at 7:00am.

This allows our medical team enough time to examine and prepare your pet for surgery. You will meet with the technician briefly when you arrive to go over the pre-surgical paperwork and consent forms. If you are unable to drop off during this time, unfortunately we will be forced to reschedule the procedure.

Your pet’s front leg and surgery site will be shaved for the procedure.

We will shave a small spot on the front leg for the placement of an IV catheter, and we will also shave and clean the surgical area as part of our preparation and sterilization protocols.

You will receive a call when your pet is fully awake from anesthesia.

Most of our procedures are performed between 9am and 1pm, and a doctor or technician will call you as soon as your pet is up and awake from surgery. At this time, we will also let you know what time your pet can be picked up. In case of any emergencies, please be sure to list a secondary contact number that will be available for us to call if needed.

Your pet will be ready to go between 5:00pm-5:45pm the day of surgery.

For most routine procedures, patients are alert and ready to go home the same afternoon. A technician will tell you exactly what time your pet will be ready to go home. If you are unable to pick up before we close at 6:00pm, your pet will be boarded with us overnight (at an additional charge).

Payment will be due in full when you arrive to pick up.

Please plan accordingly to pay your invoice when you arrive to take your pet home. We accept cash, credit card and CareCredit.

Please follow all post-operative instructions to ensure a full recovery.

When you arrive to pick up, a technician will meet with you to review any home-care instructions, including feeding instructions, medications, and any activity restrictions you will need to follow. This will be a great time for you to ask any questions you might have before taking your pet home. If your pet goes home with an e-collar, please be sure to keep the e-collar on at ALL times until the sutures are removed (10 days minimum) to avoid any repairs or delays in healing. Any medications, supplies (including e-collars) or repairs needed after your pet goes home will be an additional cost. We encouraged you to schedule any needed follow up visits when you pick up.
