CVA Certification: Why It’s Important For Your Pet’s Health

Garden Oaks Veterinary is proud to announce that two more members of our team, Xena and Madeline,  have passed their Certified Veterinary Assistant (CVA) Level I and Level II exams. To achieve this designation, they both had to complete 500 hours of verified work experience as well as master basic animal care, handling skills and materials as required by the Texas Veterinary Medical Association (TVMA). They must also commit to continuing education.

In many places, veterinary assistants are simply untrained employees who learn their skills on the job. In the state of Texas and at Garden Oaks Veterinary Clinic, we encourage certification for this position because we believe it’s important that anyone handling animals have the proper training and education to do so. Our view is that this certification improves not only the animal’s experience at our clinic but contributes to better outcomes and provides reassurance to families that their pets are receiving optimal care.

In addition to earning her CVA Level II, Xena just passed her two year anniversary of joining the Garden Oaks team. Xena started as a Kennel Assistant and her hard work and motivation have excelled her to achieve her second veterinary assistant certification.

Madeleine (or Maddy for short) came to Garden Oaks Veterinary Clinic almost a year ago after already working in veterinary medicine for a few years, and she has been diligently working toward her certification ever since. We couldn’t be more proud to have Xena and Maddy as a part of our outstanding patient care team, and we encourage you to congratulate them if you see them at your pet’s next visit!

You can read more about the specifics of the CVA certification process on the TVMA website.
