Bordetella causes inflammation of your dog or cat’s upper respiratory system which leads to coughing and illness, ultimately exposing your pet to secondary infections. Bordetella is one of several bacterial and viral agents that is responsible for kennel cough. Highly contagious, it is easily transmitted through the air or through direct contact and is resistant to destruction in the environment.
If you have a pet who regularly goes to daycare, the dog park or grooming facilities, we highly encourage you to have them vaccinated against Bordetella. Although it is a non-core option, it is important to protect your pet from a hacking cough and snotty nose brought on by this highly contagious disease.
Ask one of our veterinarians for more information on this vaccine and when/if you should give it to your pet. Contact us at (713) 999-6095.
